Don't Disturb

from Poorly Labeled Songs by Danny Whitecotton

/

about

This song, "Don't Disturb", is a road song written in about 30 minutes in a Holiday Inn Express outside Blacksburg, Virginia before heading to the next town to play. It's a rarity to actually get a hotel room on tour so I soaked up every second of three star luxury I could. The desk was tiny but it was big enough for my notebook and coffee to write a song.
Thanks for all your support and I look forward to seeing you down the road.

lyrics

Only have an hour to be out of my hotel
So I thought I’d write a song just for you
Drove all of yesterday for a hundred dollar bill
In this town that I may never come back through

Nobody said this was easy
But somebody has done this before
I’m not the first and I know I’m not the last
To write a song with don’t disturb on the door
If hotel rooms could talk
They’d tell of dreams that crashed to the floor
and stayed behind key card locks
and don’t disturb signs on the door

House keeping is knocking
I should probably be on my way
There’s another town in another state
I’m dropping bread crumbs to find my way
Someday this may not be enough
You deserve so much more
Than songs about dreams or abstract things
Like don’t disturb signs on the door

The car is all packed up
Except for me this notebook and guitar
I’ve got five minutes to be on my way
or they’ll max out that old credit card
Some say I’m wasting my time
What are you wasting your’s for?
I’ll take the excitement that comes from running behind
and don’t disturb signs on the door
